Haiku Poems by Daipayan Nair

HAIKU

songbirds play slides

on a bamboo stalk —

our day out

just one

perfect conch shell –

mom's beachcombing

full moon –

a pitch-black image

in my cellphone

Pitri Paksha

my offering caws

across the sky

whispering waves

as the silence slips

between us

kids do catfishing

in floodwaters –

plastic scraps

air terminal —

mom carries her child

on a luggage cart

creaking fan ...

forever in queue

at the cash counter

packaged drinking water

all over a scooter seat –

summer juice stall

Khandagiri –

the langur taps on my head

for a peanut handful
