Ten Haiku by Joshua St. Claire

HAIKU

perhaps a brief life

would have been a blessing

mayfly

midsummer’s night

not every light

a firefly

juniper berries

in each martini

midsummer sun

summer night

a boy picks Antares

from a bramble bush

watermelon sky

we see how far

we can spit the stars

bonfire

the Mead Moon

sticky on our skewers

summer constellations

the cool water of the stream

only flows one way

July afternoon

we watch the Appalachians rise

thunderheads

how carefully the hare

chooses the red clover

the stillness of a lynx

a meteor

falls to the meadow

peregrine falcon
