Ten Haiku and Senryu by Maurizio Brancaleoni - In Italian with English Translations

Haiku and Senryu by Maurizio Brancaleoni

il cane abbaia
nell'eco del silenzio:
l'anno se ne va

the dog barks
in the echo of the silence —
the year departs

tetto al prezzo:
un gigante s'annida
nella campata

price ceiling —
a giant nests
in the span

alba d'inverno:
lungo il marciapiede
segni di fumo

winter dawn —
along the sidewalk
smoke signals

neanche uno spicciolo
tra le gocce di pioggia:
il mendicante

not even a cent
amid the raindrops —
beggar

treno per Roma:
la voce sfilacciata
bigliettatrice

train to Rome —
the frayed voice
of the ticket machine

il Sud e il Nord
s'incrociano col Centro
alla stazione

the South and the North
cross the Center
at the station

Roma Termini:
i resti di McDonald's
l'unico pasto

Roma Termini —
the McDonald's leftovers
the only meal

fame a Termini:
lecca l'invisibile
dal cucchiaio

hunger at Termini station —
licking the invisible
off the spoon

treno per Roma:
l'audace epica
di una pennica

train to Rome —
the daring epic
of a nap

alba d'inverno:
cacca perfettamente
scarpa-striata

winter dawn —
perfectly shoe-striped
poo
