Five Poems by Chyrel J. Jackson

Nature’s Incubator

Spring makes my soul alive.
The world is awake,
with time Revived.
Everything in bloom and warmer
days that were shorter now are longer.
Newness of life.
A season of wonder.
Renewal
Rebirth
Rejuvenation
Resurrection
an equinox within the whole earth.
Springtime ultimately issues in summer.
Spring is an incubator and tide in
the earth where everything in nature is born anew.

Limitless Devotion

Yours was the reciprocating

heart.

Receiving and giving limitless

devotion.

Without fear we hold on to

Love.

Freeing ourselves from past

Heartache.

We build our fairytale

ever after.

You were the one to open

my heart.

You chose to stay

I believe love is possible,

with you, now forever, and

always.

You are my heart's greatest

Love.

Rushing

Everything’s a rush.

Rushing to catch fast

moving planes.

Rushing to put out

life altering cataclysmic

fires.

Rushing to tame unyielding

fleshly desires.

Rushing to wait on slow

moving trains.

Rushing to powerwalk through

a mundane and ordinary, routine

life.

Rushing to remember important

and unimportant names.

Perhaps, one day I’ll slow down

long enough to enjoy the aroma of

natures extraordinary, fragrant,

roses.

Broken

Shattered dreams of

unfulfilled hope,

grabbing desperately at

anything, something.

Spiraling down the

unassailable mountain

of defeat,

collecting fragments of

deferred dreams.

Beaten, bruised,

down on my knees.

Picking up the pieces

of a fragile, broken, life.

My Heart is Happiest Watching Ezra Dance

A carefree, teenaged Black boy

dances the night away

in his mother’s love-filled kitchen.

Happy hands and feet

wave and glide soulfully across

the checkered tiled floor.

How monumental this moment.

Watching a Black boy safe

at home tonight, from the

rage-filled world outside,

that won’t allow teenaged Black

boys to blissfully dance.
