Three Poems by Michael H. Brownstein

In the Heat of a Sleep

dream catcher caught dreams,

but his nightmare--no--

that came back--alive

An Island Floats Down the Missouri

the sun sneezes, her nose snot-filled,

the landscape wakes to palisades of color--

a short breath of wind stretches over us

sitting in our garden of perfume and dew:

our garden of patterns and bark,

wood carvings and a degradation of wood.

Sometimes heaven comes in the rain of a sneeze,

STORM

white scars of light

across branches of cloud

train wreck of thunder

and then ice rock fell

Sun Storm

Somehow a rainbow can harvest the sky,

and a dragonfly over murky black waters

wears a rainbow on its wings--

and over there:

wild horses of the sky

wind race

gathering rain,

but where did the ice rock come from?

Michael H. Brownstein’s latest volume of poetry, A Slipknot Into Somewhere Else was recently published by Cholla Needles Press (2018).
