One Poem by Kuma Raj Subedi

Momentary Beauty

A hairy and rather ugly caterpillar

ate green mulberry leaves

till it became a butterfly.

The butterfly's green and yellow colours

attracted me as it hovered

over rose buds in spring.

The buds spread their petals

and in autumn the roses died.

When the butterfly died

its wings lost their shine

I left the scene.

Nature's beauty is fleeting

like a rainbow in a sun shower

and dreams.

The butterfly is a dream

like the spring days of youth.

Now, when I wake

and look in a mirror

I see grey hair and wrinkly cheeks

welcoming the autumn.
