5 Haiku and 5 Tanka by Dr Randy Brooks

5 Haiku and 5 Tanka

mud-slide chocolate

the centerpiece

of her ofrenda

red riding hood

property of the state

the wren’s body

earthrise

over a dark moon valley

the pull of your text

mining an asteroid

the honeybot with

limbs of lithium

mission to mars

one breathless day

for mayflies

broke, alone

in a foreign city

a card in my pocket

with the name

of a soup kitchen

bumble bee rises

out of the leaves

in her rake

hey,

I live here

a Christmas card

arrives

for Mother

two years

too late

collecting shells

in the shallows

this one

already chosen

by a hermit crab

a feather in the cap

on pitch

on time

her shadow flying

to Neverland
