Five Poems by Nolcha Fox

Grease

I hold dark with greasy hands.

I toss her up to fly.

She is a bird that wings away.

She brings back firelight.

I toss time up to fly.

I sing greasy hours.

Time brings back firelight.

My grease alights and burns.

I sing greasy hours.

I am a bird that wings away.

My greasy hands alight and burn.

I hold dark with bandaged hands

Goodbyesing

Snowcalls howl through a wind that barrenchills the trees of staynot leaves. Leafrain falls, colorfaded  deathbeauty. Goodbye, autumn, branches skeletonwave. They claw the clouds, tear runnels for snowcry and shivercold. Joychange the world from fire to ice. Fire to ice today.

Midnight Cries

Out of the ninth-month midnight, the stars pour down as rain, a sadness fickle moon cannot curtail. I find the stars among the leaves that crackle as I walk. Stars glow and sparkle, crystal sobs, to grieve for winter’s coming. Although they saw the death of life so many times below them, they cannot stand another end, depart their home in heaven.

Hello, Morning

I’m on the road while you’re asleep.

Dawn warms my face through misty glass.

Geese wave hello above my head.

I’ll be your ghost when you wake up.

Dawn warms my face through misty glass.

I drive a route that you don’t know.

I’ll be your ghost when you wake up.

You’ll never see my face again.

I drive a route that you don’t know.

Geese wave goodbye above my head.

You’ll never see my face again.

I’m leaving you while you’re asleep.

Death Brings a Bouquet

Flowers withered,

berries black,

I throw them all

into the trash.

Red vase, washed

and ready for some

mourning glories as

a life comes to a close.

Who else will wither,

die away?

When will death

bring a bouquet to

someone else for me?
