Selected Tanka, Haiku & Senryu Poems by Pegah Rahmati Nezhad

tanka:

waking up
to the harsh noise
of leaf blower
i'm even more grateful
for birdsong

***

holding back emotions
all day long
she tears up in backyard
in front of
Sentimental Blue

***

pink peony...
pink perfection camellia
if you do not love
my chaotic
you don't deserve my neat

***

beautyberries in the garden
i laugh along with
American robins
cherishing...
their purple chuckle songs

***

ginkgo tree
loses
all the golden leaves
at the same time
i hold on to my hope

***

i used to be sad
not to belong
but now i know
not belonging
is sheer freedom

***

cormorants migrate
to warmer places
i
to their turquoise
eyes

***

drone’s view
of a herd
as if horse-shaped shadows
are standing
on brown dashed lines

***

how come angelic souls
reside
on veiled Venus
when they adore...
stargazing?

***

dolphins get high
on a pufferfish
in a game of catch
do they even know
what bullying is?

***

child
(s)wirls around
mom's feet
at the sight of
huge soft (s)erve

haiku/senryu:

gigantic leaf pile
i fall
for fall

***

improvising color combos lantanas

***

ringing in my ears bluebells' silence

***

mercury retrograde
internet problem
in the Hermes shop

***

she collects buttons
to create...
a flower meadow

***

a stardust howling at the stars (i)

***

tasting like orange oriole's song

***

a flock of angry birds visit me greenfinches

***

fluffing out their tutus fuchsias

***

full of life cut-throat finch

***

bright green
the love language
of great egrets

***

wood pigeon
in yoga tree pose
end of shivers

***

fighting to win
sunflower hearts
titmice

***

antique hydrangea...
bridal bouquet
for a new life

***

shinrinyoku
i follow
a pink forester

***

making a nest
on car wipers
laughing doves

***

innocence
in a vase
baby's breath

***

striped zebra mom
spotted zebra foal
wabi-sabi

***

pulling off...
turquoise lipstick
black-and-red broadbill

***

twinkling blue stars in ink... jewel damselfish
