Trip to The Mountain
The boat rode out upon the lake
making a start to the day
it’s the eve of a new year
smooth water reflects the Druid like people
as they hold their totem poles with ribboned
weave
when silently the mountain appears
Ascending through woods with dripping moss
They grapple with spent growth
to reach the Holy ancient well
Homage begins as the drums beat loud
while fire sparks fly
the bonfire blisters the hazel bough
above king holly within the wreath of
spells
Bards read aloud
musical birdsong opens hearts
where miracles resonate with this lake
of legend whose myth of Swans lying cradled
The Children
of Lir
who slept in cussed spell?
Smoked incense wafts a benediction
as food gets shared
Lit wicks burn as herbs crackle
in the flames
of
the departing year, 2019
A chalice
passes hands
as sun rays sneak through branches
promises made to re-group
when Spring tides and sun return strongly
Now a giant pine-tree gets circled
hugged with arms in an embrace
rooted deep
in soil beside that chapel
with one remaining gable
facing East
Light is fading when
those pilgrims rush to return to the pier
shriven they chatter light-hearted as
tinkling laughter floats when the
Venus star appears.

She holds several Educational qualifications, Including a Degree in Arts in Humanities, from Sligo IT.
Her background is in Advocacy in Human and Social Rights.
Margaret has completed numerous courses and workshops in writing, for prose and poetry.
Margaret has four grown-up children. She lives in Westmeath with her dog Molly. She is a landscape painter. Is into Nature, walking, gardening, music, and heritage. She is working towards a First collection in Poetry.
