One Poem by Susan Tepper with Art by Digby Beaumont

Digby Beaumont painting: Dead of Night, 2021, acrylic on paper

Near Midnight

With complete confidence

in a moment he will

enter the murky

rain splashed square

now nearly empty

but for the occasional cat

slinking past.

He will drop the knife

with ease

into the trash bin west

of the gurgling fountain.

Where he’s dropped many

a greasy chip bag.

All perfectly timed

as garbage trucks come

barrelling into sight.

She won’t be remembered

what is there to remember.
