Tan-Renga Poems by M. R. Defibaugh done in collaboration with Malaysian poet Christina Chin

wildfires

glow behind

the farmer's straw hut

harvest moonrise

not as bright

5 o'clock shadow

the farmer rubs his chin

over stubble fields

sacrificial scarecrows

feed the bonfire

desolation grows

as the air begins to cool

over withered grains

pointing fingers

will not resolve

fleeting autumn

the stack of wood

slowly shrinking

in this energy

crisis

closer

to understanding

the tattered lotus

how the pods stay

above muddy water
