Water on Mars
The ghost of a comet
Left traces in the sand
Of long lost, ancient icebergs
Told tales of a short, brilliant life
Written in flood plains
Alluvial scriptures in the rock
Bubbling up from the depths
Now salt scattered to the winds
A heartbeat in the cosmos
The flicker of a star
The organs fail and wither
Oceans dry and turn to dust,
Blown away on cosmic winds
he air leaves the lungs
And we’re left with only
Beautiful, imperfect memories
Every Storm a Serenade
My love you are so far away
Out upon your grand adventure
Satisfying wishes, making peace
I am here waiting, ever patient
For the return of your soft embrace
The chaotic laughter
The lying on the floor
I now imagine you a mermaid
Fae folk of your dreams
Catching sailors, sinking ships
And in the air I feel you even here
Like clouds high in the atmosphere
As it rains on you there, and then here
Every storm a serenade
In every drop of rain and sea
Civil Twilight
The skyline looks beautiful underwater
In the twilight
Sticky carboniferous glow
Of a beautiful, endless
Summer sunset
The dwindling gazers
Waiting, liminal, passing the time
And every day the tea is served
For no one in particular
Amid tropical breezes
At empty beach cafes
In gentle new archipelagos
Who could have imagined
The end of the world
Would be so pleasant?
Summerlands
Springtime is over
The heat came, its
Dewy blanket, dripping
Made you glow
Like the misty sunrise
Ephemeral sounds of
Lawn mowing
Children playing
Presence of a love,
Blossoming
Space between the breaths
Like guitar chords
Lazily strumming
We laid still
Together
As morning turned to
Quiet afternoon
Adulthood, golden bright
As we thought of
Future plans, and
What to eat tonight
The Water Labyrinth
King Minos
Why have you brought me here?
To this shifting maze of coral
No matter how far
And how fast I may swim
To dry land
I see you again and again in dreams
And under your jewelled skylights
Beneath the waves
I am still searching for your treasures
Yet I find only death
From a heart still clinging
To splintered driftwood
Not yet ready to wash out to sea
