Ten Haiku Poems by J. D. Nelson

Ten Haiku Poems

the hen eats her corn

& that of her two sisters—

therapy today

what’s that in its mouth?

a squirrel with a mousetrap

climbs into a tree

an alert rabbit

near twelve purple irises—

the dog & I walk

the field is now gone

& the yellow yarrow, too—

new house construction

the clear, starry sky

on this night without a moon . . .

silhouettes of trees

the sky to the east

is hazy white from a fire—

blackbirds in cattails

dog walk at sunset—

the white & orange cat plods

through the lush, green grass

a bowl of green beans

heats up in the microwave—

cricket in the house

there are clouds beneath

the clouds on this windy night . . .

a hole for the moon

the cricket has stopped—

there are five jars of pickles

on the bedroom floor
