One Poem by Susan Taylor

Morgana, Caught in Her Own Spell

Set me free now awhile

my heart is full of flames, so

many too many dreams

I collect

rail upon rail

like beautiful dresses

nestled inside them

my dreams are

sheer silver sings of mist

my ribs make a cage of

dragon’s breath

dragon’s breath

my ribs make a cage of

sheer silver wings of mist

my dreams are

nestled inside them

like beautiful dresses

rail upon rail

I collect

many too many dreams

my heart is full of flames, so

set me free now awhile

Susan Taylor has been weaving words since she was 16 when she left school. An ex-shepherd from Lincolnshire, she now lives on Dartmoor and the moor’s windswept landscapes have drawn her to the wild side – she’s now a devotee of wolves. La Loba Speaks for Wolf is her ninth poetry collection, out this spring from Bx3. This illustrated book contains sound poems, shaped poems and spell-like incantations. It’s a whole mixed bag, which doubles as the script for her solo show of the same title, which she is currently redeveloping after the enforced pause of lockdown.

Previous career highlights include Centre Director at the Arvon Foundation in the 1980’s and teaching at Bath Spa University, where she gained her MA in Creative Writing. She has nine poetry collections, including three from Oversteps Books. Her most recent study was a year’s course with The West Country School of Myth and Storytelling with Dr Martin Shaw.
