One Poem & Six Modern Haiku by Carmella de Keyser

Flamethrower

Highly flammable fuel fire-streams over from you to me,

Like a shark trailing white and red in the pacific deep,

Red-raw, orange-oven, yellow-yolk, white-waves, aloft my benign blue balance.

I am a slippery fish in the Hudson River, gleaming and glistening,

Crossing and turning,

An unaware and pristine prey,

Thrust beneath your ominous keening whale song.

Be gentle with me,

I am water not fire.

Six Modern Haiku

One single lost raft,

Swaying in the serene sea,

Acapella voice.

Pebbles in the snow,

White ices the roaming river-

No birds in the nest.

Little hidden house,

Still upon the rolling hill,

Sun will melt your walls.

Glistening hard rock,

Listening to the rainfall,

Morning lithophytes rise…

Sky crashing and raw,

Honey-roasted canopy,

New day has risen.

Lake spins from my mouth,

Marbling rain massages ground,

Hearts are thinning out.
