Five Poems by Linda Imbler

Quite The Collection

Deeds of harpies,

their odyssey recorded as legends.

A goddesses’ incantation,

risen to Heaven.

The tenacity of a juggernaut,

jealous and destructive.

Kraken’s nectar inside a potion,

brewed in the canteen of Olympus.

Satyr theorizing

how the labyrinth is laid.

The perplexing behaviour of demigods,

who inherited power

from the heritage of old warriors.

A dire framework of creatures

who, if possessing a tamer purpose,

might have developed

into something beyond myth.

The Only Letter From Ultima Thule

In this realm beyond borders of the known world,

here, the ghosts of the dead linger,

and thoughts of tomorrow have no place

ever-changing cloud patterns do not exist,

only colourless blankets of billowed vapor

hang

as a dead overhead canopy

which blocks the stars

vessels of dead lilies line paths,

and nearby,

a once merry maypole sags,

its banners lacklustre, somber, and torn.

Drabness and sterility are masters here.

All objects,

whether matter and spirit,

wear light grey surfaces,

flat, without any matted texture.

There’s no moving forward.

There’s no going somewhere new.

And if you linger,

you will become like this place is.

Creation past this point will be a challenge never met.

Ultima Thule stands at the top of the world,

as the place over which explorers' trip

while seeking something greater

than from where they came.

The Perfect Form

To symbolize wisdom,

to bind together humble idols

exclusively possessing

many holy formulas,

to become Mystics gaining secrets,

revealing that knowledge which

will help us keep our days sacred.

All the faithful designs,

merged as spiritual blend.

Each making its contribution

to the sacramental meal.

For this reason alone,

each of us should

take one's place among the assembly,

so that Truth may be vouchsafed,

and grey can be seen as neon.

All Those Saints

Their souls speak

when we are silent.

Their dark bones are filled with light,

waiting to be freed.

Even the trees whisper their magic,

and sunrise and sunset hold their peace.

We read their chronicles across the eons.

All things are intertwined between

one overwhelming sail

across the ocean of their reason,

and the timelessness

of their stunning history.

We have the most to gain

when we heed their songs.

Dreams Sent from The Moon

Purely reinstated,

those old vague yearnings stir,

bring such feelings drawn from limits of the sky.

A pendulum swing of

powerful synthesis

of your mind’s sensible signs laid next

to an alien faith.

Dreams sent from the moon,

reviewed, returned.

Visible imagery

folded over,

one fits within the other,

telling you that

you know more

than one night’s shine

can express.
