Abrasion
The
sash on future’s window starts to fray.
Opened
wide, it slips a little more
each
and every bright new day.
Just
a scant bit or so for now
like
sweet Nikki’s slow slide home.
But
then for others, the sash just snaps:
Toby’s
sudden lurch into oblivion
late
one early summer night.
I
keep my windows shut tight
and
unfurl the squeaky screen door,
whose
spring, I notice,
is
getting a little loose.
