10 Haiku
frost shimmers then melts
into gleaming pocket pools
watering the earth
we giggle and talk
picnicking under the trees
no longer strangers
golden-glow wattle
bursting forth to set alight
the sunken garden
oh, Picasso moth—
night hides Mondrian delight
on a canvas white
careful what you wish–
for a dragonfly may stitch
your hopes to the sky
Mexican larva
growing curled inside a seed
watch how you can jump
In every season
what keeps you from the darkness
keeps you from yourself
Toxic Lenten rose
brutiful cup of poison
purple means repent
cremated remains
sprinkled over rose bushes
have found their way home
birds in scarlet oaks
herald longer days singing
things won’t fall apart
