Three Poems by Mike Zone

Waiting

I know

the longer you wait

the more dire the fate

just like body on a downward spiral from warehouse dreams to kitchen nights and retail purgatories

my heart gradually diminishes

in love

Her

Sheer  perfection

solar rays on her breath

wheels won’t stop spinning

in her mind

nor mine

how could loving ever feel so lethal?

a monk in solitude born of a broken man

she’s governed by mania with a sense of chaos

obsessed with flyby night order

how the mad sea with vicious tides colluding with storms washes away the progress of pilgrim’s promise

fables and reflections

upturned by love

deception

mass confusion of time’s past breeding into future tense

to murder the present

never have I wanted to go numb and lack emotion

in these death-squad nights

do perhaps

100mg of edibles

May serve well

the version of us

inside my head

NYE

Half past midnight

Knowing you wont’ be back

But I’ll leave

the light on

anyway

bedroom door

slightly ajar

dreaming of you

hoping

to find you beside me

as we wake

coffee

witticisms

on a year day

never to come
