MIND GAMES (chain Haikus 5/7/5) by Snigdha Agrawal

MIND GAMES (chain Haikus 5/7/5)

Through the window slats
broken, ribboned light streamed in,
breaking the plainness.

Through the window slats
broken, a queen bee entered,
finding unclaimed space.

Through the window slats
broken, flew in a sparrow,
fleeing from its prey.

Through the window slats
broken, autumn leaves drifted
in, dried and shrivelled.

Through the window slats
broken, in jumped a squirrel,
bright-eyed, bushy-tailed.

Through the window slats
broken, saw the skies light up,
exploding, blinding.

Through the window slats
broken, purple blooms peeped in,
burgeoned from wild seeds.

Through the window slats
broken, saw feathered friends meet
at the water feed.

Through the window slats
broken, wafted toxic smells,
warplanes had released.

Through the window slats
broken, heard cries of those hurt,
shorn of dignity.

Through the window slats
broken, eaten by wood mites
unlearned life doctrines.

Through the window slats
broken, an army of roaches
slipped in, bulldozing.

Through the window slats
broken, rainwater seeped in,
muddying up beliefs.

Through the window slats
broken, witnessed seasons change,
birth, growth, ageing, death.

Through the window slats
broken, despair departed,
leaving room for hope.

Through the window slats
broken, my trapped soul escaped,
freed of social chains.
