Images of Nina - Ten Haiku Poems by Connie Johnson

Images of Nina:

Haiku by Connie Johnson

North Carolina

a former child prodigy,

leaping boundaries

iconic protest

Nina Simone speaks the truth,

reflecting the times

searing perspective

in Mississippi Goddamn:

 the world’s wake-up call

what does freedom mean?

from the bitter to the sweet

four women reply

hear the princess noire

power in every note

virtuosity

intoxicating

lilac wine on the menu

Nina takes a sip

wily sorceress

recognizing her beauty

undeniable

i loves you, porgy

palpable need and longing

two mystical souls

as Nina whispers:

my baby just cares for me

she casts her own spell

wailing piano

a single woman in France

solo legacy
