Three Wonderful Poems by Amita Paul aka Amita Sarjit Ahluwalia

When the Rain was Fresh

When the Rain was so fresh
that it brightened the World
and it greened my eyes

When in Faith’s golden mesh
Hope’s treasure lay furled
and Love was the prize

Spirit woke up the Flesh
every grass blade was pearled
every songbird was wise

It was only a Walk

It was only a walk but it woke up my mind
I was one with the grass and the leaves and the birds
It was only a song but just one of its kind
Where the music itself was enough with no words

Where the home of the Poet stood small by the lake
Where the climbing rose adorned each window and door
And the brook babbled by every bush every brake
And my heart said to me , “ I have been here before ! “

Alarm Bells

The Highlands stood like sentinels
The Lowlands hid their glades and dells
The Woods were full of sweet violets
And misty drifts of soft bluebells

Who breaks these dreamy magic spells ?
Who in disharmony here dwells ?
Ah , who but Man exploits the Earth
Till Nature rings Alarm Bells ?
