Ten Untitled Short Poems
when ocean
touches sky
infinite blue
on the other side of winter
melted snow waters seeds
hope grows
a lone, unmarked
curled-at-the-edges photo
the mystery taunts
I have saved
every single scribble
you ever wrote me
ashes to ashes
sprinkling on the soil
reborn
yesterday
I opened the windows
to let life in
wherever I live
I will forever be
the gal from Kalamazoo
the first rose of summer
heralding all that is to come
bravery unfurling
I see you
in the bright morning light
blinded by your love, still
lilacs
each flower a tiny
lavender star
Jennifer Gurney lives in Colorado where she teaches, paints, writes and hikes. Her poems have been published internationally, including 12 books. Jennifer’s poems have been: winners in two international contests, turned into a choral piece and performed, printed on a yard sign in Washington, D.C., shown on movie theater screens in Australia, given out for free through the Rx Poetry project and printed on a sign on a bus in Racine, Wisconsin. She just recently completed her first 24-hour Poetry Marathon and found the experience uniquely thrilling. Although she has written her whole life, at 62, she has finally known enough joy and enough sorrow to write a half-way decent poem, on occasion.
