Five Poems by Hilary Canto

TRANSCENDING

Today I’m being attentive

Watching, listening, feeling

The reality of life

I want to leave this world

No interest any longer

In the chaotic human plight

Spent my life helping others

Teaching, healing, advising

Contributing, forgiving

Mistakes are there

For all to see

The lessons on my journey

The hour is late

The time is now

Still my world isn’t learning

I’m all used up

Energy gone

Light inside now waning

Once I believed

In the goodness of my race

Yet daily horror speeds up at pace

Is it too late, turn the tide

Release the spirit

Buried inside

Not for me, to second guess

Humanity ‘s job to

clean up its mess

I’ll finish now

Words fail me so

Transcending is where I’ll go

Goodbye my race

My world, my home

Time to die and be reborn.

EARTH’s CITIZEN

From the Great Source

Intelligence communicated

Prepared for mission

On a paradise planet

Born screaming

into the physical world

Innocence conditioned,

defiled, imprinted

Soul journeys

in a hellish life

Yearns experience of

Love, joy and peace

 Learns how to return

home, to the light

Wisdom beyond personal fulfilment

Serves destiny to unity, co- existence

Steward, nurture, life on earth

bring love, compassion, to those in need

Help one another, reconnect

Remember, one is not alone

 Earth’s future

life-giving force

Lives in relationship

with its Source

Humanity’s true beingness

Awaits recall

See, know, act

Sparks of Source

 Life and Love

 Awaken consciousness

Honour the Gift

Human Being

Earth’s Citizen

JOY

Without sadness

Heart happiness

Inside the dark

Light sparks

Experiencing laughs

Releases gaffes

Smile lights room

Dissipates gloom

Beauty in nature, art, life

Fosters forgiveness

Heals strife

Heart skips a beat

Love takes a leap

Entwined in a kiss

Rapture and bliss

Twinkle in eyes

New baby arrives

A Swift in flight

Joy of sight

Breathtaking world

Life unfurled

Each second of day

Joy lights the way

Bathe in its presence

Feel the essence

Free of clouds

Joy abounds.

GOLDEN EAGLE

Driving down the silent road

Clear blue sky, sun in my eyes

There you were, perched on your rock

I stopped the car and quietly drew closer

Those eagle eyes stared into my soul

Expert in alertness, listening, watching

Searching for prey, or preparing for flight

Your golden feathers glistened in sunlight

That iconic beak, brutal weapon

Tear weaker life with powerful talon

Food for your young, a model parent

Passing skills to fledging children

Mating for life, embodying wisdom

Soaring over vast ranges of land and sea

Symbolic of mysteries beyond my eyes

From the top of the mountain

Or deep in the valley

Watching, waiting, I’m mesmerised

Words cannot describe your presence

King or Queen of the skies

My secret encounter, the beautiful prize

With me forever, I join you in flight

Master of power and mystery,

I ascend with your heart

Aloft golden wings

Flying me closer to the light.

THE PLAN OF NATURE

There is a plan in nature
We must understand
A life dependent network
Working hand in hand
Not seen by those
who close their eyes
Or choose not to hear
Nor can be touched
Or even smelled
By those locked into fear

Folk who open up their hearts
Tune in with focused ears
Who scent pure air
See through despair
And care for life in all its forms
Shift emphasis away from norms
Enjoy the freedom sorely craved
With inner strength, released and brave
restoring beauty in the natural world
Life gives to life in mutual exchange
Giving and Receiving no longer strange

The silent cries
From trees in pain
Reach through the canopy
Receive light again
Renewing every living cell
Healing from this cruel hell
Animals, humans, plants, trees, flowers
All await freedom in these darkest hours
The plan of nature is not for one species
An interconnected life is not a thesis
Living in joint cooperation
Unity frees from isolation

Each passing hour we kill the living
We lose ourselves, unforgiving
Earth to space the new frontier
We haven’t yet learned
How to live here
A Greater Community awaits our future
Beings different from our culture
Another planet isn’t home
Earth’s the future for our race
To live in harmony
Not destroy its face

We haven't much time
To lift ourselves now
Endless discussions
As to how
The plan of nature will succeed
Humanity control its greed
In failing we are the ones to blame
Defiling this living entity our shame
We stand at the crossroads of
Goodbye to humanity
Or Hello to a world
With love and sanity

Hear and know the voice inside
Will help us turn the tide
Act upon what we see
Move us to where we want to be
The plan of nature gave us freewill
The choice to live
To heal our ills
When we honour all creation
The flame of knowing
Is true elation
Inside and outside
Reality breathes
Life’s great network
Through the universe weaves.
