One Poem by Allan Lake

A Fine Day for It

In my Melbourne suburb, dedicated

Parking Inspectors lurk. It’s unfor-

giving work even on Easter Sunday

but it’s better to give than receive.

Mary’s son rose to the occasion

and so do those plodding sons and

daughters of women who place

winning ‘tickets’ on windshields.

For God’s sake, somebody has to

do thankless jobs, bring in revenue

Hot crossed buns and bunnies

of chocolate and infringement

notices in every direction.

Allan Lake, originally from Saskatoon, Canada, has lived in Vancouver, Cape Breton Island, Ibiza, Tasmania, Western Australia and Melbourne. Lake has won Lost Tower Publications (UK) Comp, Melbourne Spoken Word Poetry Festival & publication in New Philosopher. Latest poetry chapbook (Ginninderra Press) ‘My Photos of Sicily’.
