One Poem by Bernard Pearson

Approaching Halloween 2022

She lay before

them pale fleshed,

but still breathing,

(the guttering light

was all she could

afford) then each

approached

her their teeth bared

the cold dead drool

fell from their lips like acid

on her once peached skin,

The lustre of her lips now

cratered like the surface

of a failing  moon.

Then when

they had taken sup,

and she arose,  a miracle

from hell, with eyes

that could not see and

heart that could never

love save for the

gold encrusted

Sarcophagus in which

she would lie.
