Five Tanka Poems by Elancharan Gunasekaran

Tanka Poems

tundra winds

whisper

death’s name

into ears

with every step

ice

on beard

to the bard’s ballad

dying fire

burns on and on

slipping dagger

between dragon scales

the all fire

burns out its last

a village in cinders

drawn to the chaos

curious the forest

uproots

and makes its way

into the heart of grey

light from eternal lamp

flickers violently

bodies blink

in and out of existence

in the city of shadows

Elancharan Gunasekaran is inspired by Dadaist movements, butoh and anarchism. He believes that humans are capable of governing themselves without the need of political systems. His art often involves experimenting with visual and literary forms on the raw aspects of the human condition, climate change and man-made/ natural phenomena.
