One Poem by Mike Turner

The Forest Speaks

The forest speaks

In the rustling of dry Autumn leaves

Stirred by warm winds

With just a hint of coming frost

Flashing orange and brown in golden sunlight

Atop a low ridge

Overlooking the valleys below

What stories does it tell?

What poetry rhyming sweetly?

Tales of days, weeks, months, years

That the trees have stood

Surveying all as time passes

Winter, Spring, Summer

The turning of the seasons

The smell of woodsmoke wafting in fading light

A coolness begins to settle

As the forest whispers its last thoughts

As the Sun sets

And the Moon casts its pewter glow

On the quiet of the night

Until the forest speaks again

Upon the morrow
