One Poem by Myrtle Thomas

Late October Moon

1.

As if it were the lure of a bad moon
or the late October wind howling
but there was joy in the darkness
enough light to lie shimmering on the water
reflecting in the rapture of your arms
the adventures we found together
sharing the fruit of our love.

2.

My love we have shared the sweet things
made love in every room , enjoyed the splendour
some nights never noticing the moonlight
nor the twilight breaking through the curtains
if only my eyes could remain closed and hidden in dreams
and the dark robe of night cover me with comfort
let the glorious starlight of the universe guide me.

3.

I've heard some say " the love of my life "
but they have many " I say I've loved and been loved "
I've felt the warm ripples of a calm river -
I've listened to its song mixing with the kiss of the air
even the moon leads me away with its eyes
reminds me of the difference that we found together
my love I've known loneliness and known love's bloom.

4.

Darling I know the soft feel of your hands and the sigh
of your breath on my neck and my lips as we feel the fire
the light of the universe is pouring itself upon us tonight
burning our flesh with its rivers of fire and fury
the thunders we've felt for so long now still roar within us
time my love will find us one day like a lone flower in the wind
bending and turning us toward the portals that were closed.

5.

Morning comes with its own light  , burning our eyes and memory
the clocks are all moving too fast like a band of wild horses
carrying our dreams on their backs , their hooves sing fact or fiction
I notice the clouds in my coffee as I stir it with this spoon of silver
my thoughts sleep with every turn of my wrist against this hot liquid
I long for those cold winter snows when we were new and our hands
held that powerful spark that echoes still in our memories .

6.

Nothing but the loss of our breath can stop the bright lights
or the long shadows that are born from the moonlight
and we will have no hands to catch what comes or races from us
maybe we shall see one day what we were and were not
for we were never drunken by lust or imaginations
but driven by the ruby stones in our breast and the joy of fire
maybe tonight under the late October Moon my poetry
will be known as our novel , of love , romance and our flesh.
