Five Poems by Mary Bone

Waterfall Dreams

Sharp teeth gnawed

on bark and

felled a tree.

A dam began.

My ideas had been flowing,

stopping my dreams of a waterfall.

Summer memories

Summer memories were gathered

from the beach.

Shells were made into a bracelet,

with earrings to match.

My necklace was crafted with authentic art.

It was a summer to remember.

Wedding Day

Oxfords shining-

ready to wear.

His tie is adjusted,

He’s got to be there.

It’s such a great day to shine,

as the diamond dazzles.

The ring is ready,

to be slipped on to a nimble finger.

Street Cred

People said you have

to have street cred.

You only get that when you’re dead,

deep sixed somewhere, or

file nined in a cabinet.

I only looked the part.

Earth Revisited

Things made of dust

return to the earth.

The topsoil is rich and fertile.

In the spring growth is expected.

The wind blew fragrant petals

from a tree in our yard.

The blooms became mulch,

lying dormant until new life returned.

Dormant Spuds

Furrowed rows

Sand between toes-

potatoes lie dormant.

Spuds are waiting to grill,

chasing away a winter chill

warming bones

by an open fire.
