Three Poems by Edward Lee

WHAT IS

The shadow of infinity

falls backwards

upon us, a reminder

of what we will never have,

no matter our denial,

or our mistreatment

of the finite

given to us.

A DANGER ONLY TO MYSELF, BUT STILL A DANGER

With a handful of words

and even less effort,

you shattered me

into a thousand shards

I could easily turn

into weapons

to wound myself

all the more,

your back turned,

your interest already

towards someone else,

someone not as prone

to turn their broken pieces

into weapons, someone

not so seemingly eager

to bleed at the first sign

of metaphorical blood.

IN YOUR EYES

The tears you said

you cried for me

took a lifetime

to fall from

your eyes

onto to your cheeks,

the lifetime we said

we would spend together

until we didn’t,

and by then

I was dead,

or as good as,

the measure

of a lifetime

seemingly mine,

as in your eyes

I ceased to exist.

  1. You have such an incredible talent you are so intuitive and when I comment it’s because you have brought out the parts of me that make my heart speak as you have spoken to mine.
