Five Fibonacci Poems by Mandy Beattie

Sinclair Bay

Sky

falls

into

navy night

Stars blink in lighthouse

beams. Splashes carry in slipstreams

Crabs & seaweed swim on wave’s longshore drifts. Sandpipers

teeter, seek worms, molluscs, insects

Stiff bowed wings betrayed

by three note

cawing

Flies

off

Buddleja Davidii

Wings

shut

unfurl

fly onto

buddleia bushes

Purple flowers bloom. Butterflies

feast nectar with smell of honey from spikes dense cluster

Winged seeds propagate stony ground

Spawns far but not North

A cutting

from East

to

West

Flotsam in Longshore Drifts

Stones

are

big rocks

transported

to shores, patios

mantles. I am searchlight seeking

their fossils in sedimentary on cold shorelines

A tiny dragon sits in times

past, not museums

It’s Phoenix

risen

Fly

by(e)

The Flow Country

North

of

there is

a wide patch

of peat bog magic

lochans, water kelpies, dragon

fly. Sphagnum moss captures carbon from human folly

Muirburn and melt waters raging

Pearl inside seed pods

Ashes birth

Renew

sun

dew

The Hill o’ Many Stanes

Hill

side

strewn with

standing stones

Who planted them there?

With such precision in fan shape

Wild blackberries at their gate. I kneel, palm their ley lines

Absorb energies into me

I am litmus to

their lichen

Melting

stress

sighs
