Three Poems by Steen W. Rasmussen

GOD IS A PLACE

God is a place with no scope - a room with no space, walls of no height, imaginary windows, illusionary doors. It cannot be gleaned from out here or in there, nor in thought or dream. It is a place where nothing exists - a place in name only: oblivion; death.

It always was, it is, and it forever will be - yet, never were, is, and can never become. In this paradox lives the illusion of scale and creation, growth from motion and emotion, to choice and meaning - a place that is not God.

Perforce, you exist, and life is something rather than nothing - perforce, you feel there are choices you make. But these are, of course, the illusions. You can choose to believe, seek solace - distraction as well - in the stories we tell, to avoid the truth, looming: you are a prisoner of eternity until you return to the place that is God - a place which, of course, you never left. It is a beautiful and horrifying thing.

A POINTLESS POEM

A moment, a vibration

In the void

Accelerates a straight line

Its origin, its true nature

The pointless point

Obfuscated by the speed

Of that universal expansion

Extended ad infinitum

When and where, upon a climax

Every point along the line

And the vibration within each

Breaking into a higher realm

Birthed a whirling disk

The pattern repeating

At the speed given

Infinite lines, all pointless points

The vibrating moment

Here within this whirlwind

Where a globe emerged

Currently, an interruption

Momentary, maybe

We find ourselves

Not quite fathoming

Still waiting for the tipping point

When became there

Where becomes then

SOULSPOTTING

If your soul survives death

Either in a different life

Or in exactly the same

Say it flies off to eternal light

Or to everlasting fire

It begs the question

How many souls have been bestowed

And where are the souls-in-waiting?

Is the soul factory now closed

Or is the manufacturer still busy at it?

I bring news about the soul

Some good, some bad

The good news is that

The soul is eternal

It never dies

Your mind and consciousness

They're all yours, enjoy!

The bad news?

There is just one soul
