Three Poems by Neil Higgins

DEATH'S CORNER

For death stared upon the mirror

Reflective thoughts tugging at cemetery stables

What did the crows want with eagle eyes anyway

To see beyond what was to come?

Blue skies and cooking sun's

Over spit roast fires of amber?

Twinkling stars tried to glance away

As did the silvery moon

Full

Also unable to flee

So death shrugged its shoulders and strangled life

Perhaps blowing a kiss the moons way

Before blowing out a candle and fading to dust

Nothing

Just summer's glow

In death's corner for thee

INFUSED

Did I hear you mention butterfly wings?

Or leisurely drinking nectar

Of crafted sentences and a countryside amble

With rose petals gently scenting sweetly

As you quote lustful sonnets for cloudless skies

Hark

I hear your whisper

Let me kiss teardrops into your eyes

Infused with summer’s freedom

Within meadows of youthful memories

THE SIREN'S SONG

Mystical melodies cascade from her tender lips

Entrancing the listener

With each haunting verse

A symphony of desire and sweet surrender

That resonates deep within

The birth of the soul

As she dances upon the waves

Elusive and alluring

A mythical creature, untouchable and free

Her words a siren’s call to the lost and broken

Who seek solace in the depths of her embrace
