Five Haiku by Amit Parmessur

Haiku

Cocooned

Loners to lovers

Lost deep in labyrinth; now

Buried in backyard.

The Dark Plunge

A mermaid-to-be

You stare at pregnant dewdrops

on the mourning rose

Undone

My eyes have the strength

Of the sea in them, my heart

The weakness of waves.

Unrequited

I build, stop, rebuild—

stop again, panting, legless.

A staircase pops up.

War

Snowmen under snow

I carve angels on white slates

for those without home
