Three Fine Poems by Amita Sarjit Ahluwalia (Amita Paul)

IN THREE MINDS

MIND TORTOISE

The Tortoise was like a Sea-Stone : Grey- Brown and Green-Grey,

Shapely in a rough-hewn, metamorphic fashion,

And ever in still motion , one step lifted.

Anyone could love it, and indeed well they may,

Although with a long steady unshakeable passion,

That from indifference is carefully sifted.

From Wood it was fashioned for a grown child’s play,

And painted in colours sober natural ashen :

It seemed with the tide to have landward drifted.

How the hands shaping such wood are gifted !

How minds by tectonic shifts are rifted !

MIND MAMMOTH

A poem for an emblem was made

An emblem for an enterprise was chosen

And so the mind drifted, tectonic plates shifted

Emotion from primordial ice was unfrozen

Imagination honed on intellect’s blade.

Prehensile minds, with claws, feet, and tails,

Elephants and Mammoths curling their trunks,

Seizing, grasping, holding on bare-fisted

Wrapping themselves around Creation’s chunks

Beating about ideas like unresting flails.

Order on chaos like sunrise on oceans

Slowly the spiritual sense brings to bear

Ever so often Nature’s eyes have misted

Seeing the mortal being willing to dare

Yes, we evolve, despite dark notions.

MIND MAIDEN

The Song sings Itself in the Maiden Mind

The Purpose of Creation is fulfilled

For Truth is infinite and unconfined

The Song sings Itself in the Maiden Mind

They agonise who to the Truth are blind

Until their doubts by Love Itself are stilled

The Song sings Itself in the Maiden Mind

The Purpose of Creation is fulfilled
