Two Poems by Adele Ogier Jones

Blue glass for red rose

The heart red rose in blue glass

Deep blue from Herat where artists

Still work as glass blowers

Sweating near furnaces in

Crafts remembered by artisans

Their weapons fire and sand

To create.

Blood red rose in blue glass

Crimson deep, intense in a land

Where sensuality weaves with memory

Senses undampened by war

Rose beauty in harsh landscapes

Sole colour in the sea

Of grey sand.

Red is our blood and red for our love

Blue relief in deep lakes and far sky

Passion and calm

Red and blue meant for each other

Offsetting and counterbalancing

This live red rose

In blue glass.

View below

A green expanse below

broken by dust

as a truck enters the village

a cloud rises

collected by the sun,

expands

then settles slowly.

On closer viewing

green has many aspects

trees line roads in formation

sun glistens

captured in a stream

winding through haze

silver on emerald.

The truck now gone leaves

a legacy, things no longer

the same, land disturbed

so too a country

rising and falling

in crescendo

then quiet again.

A carpet with patterns

weaving

a single motif

brown land, green fields

variegated

images determined by light

and mind’s eye.

Story and mythmaking

determined,

each perspective changing

daily thoughts vary

perceptions in minds formed

by a history of lives

and dreams.
