One Poem by Isioma Jemimah Okonicha

Ego

Like a trophy you stood still

Spreading ego as you climbed high

Expecting deserving moment to take pride

Looking as though the world should should stumble

Tilting your head to look through the skies

Carrying in plenty all that remain of honor but uncurt

Thinking you have the ultimate prize

Showing off your begotten self

Spreading your gown down below

Covering your inner side, one that is

kept secret

Glowing each day on the outside

Suppressing the pages that follow and

truly defines you

Misleading many with a fake worth

Preferring to hold unto your untrue self

Freezing underneath your gown

But dancing on the surface

Blocking every one who tries to see

Loudly pitching them against truth

With a heavy wave of digression

You sprinkle before them a nasty smell

Sending each one on a parking lot

Making for yourself a borrowed stage.
